«MEANINGLESSNESS» AND «MEANING»: UNDERRATED ASPECTS
Abstract. The author of the paper wishes to give a more strict definition of meaning with the help of the opposite notion – namely, meaninglessness. In the dictionaries, the last one is usually associated with lack of intelligence and uselessness. Thus, a high level of intelligence and the utility of a person’s actions (her egoism) should be considered the priority-driven characteristics of the meaning notion. The conclusions obtained substantially redefine the construct of meaning.
Key words: meaninglessness, hedonism, intelligence, positive illusions, meaning, egoism.
