ANCIENT MORALITY AND CONTEMPORART SCIENCE: RESOLUTION OF CONTRADICTIONS

Abstract. The given article continues the article «Egoistically based morals: a new content for Superego» published in the previous issue of the journal (Applied Psychology and Psychoanalysis. – №2. – 2019). The author demonstrates growing contradiction between rapidly developing scientific knowledge about human nature and the unchangeable moral norms, which came from a deep antiquity. The decision of the problem suggested by the author deals with the discussion and possible revision of the central moral concepts – especially taking into account the role of human egoism as the only deep-lying substance which determines psychic and behavioral phenomena. The analysis of some traditional moral rules demonstrates difficulties with their practical application from the scientifically based point of view. The author shows possible changes in social behavior connected to the open discussion and adoption of new moral norms and pedagogical approaches based on them. The suggested novelties can lead to further integration between different fields of knowledge into the unified system and to accelerate human progress in general.

Key words: altruism, morality, psychoanalysis, religion, self-realization, happiness, egoism.
